What Is Reveal MultiColor?
Reveal MultiColor is a patented technology that allows you to print color using a direct thermal printer.
So, how is this different from our existing RevealPrint technology?
With RevealPrint, you define the color zones on the label before the labels are made. When those zones are activated by heat, they turn the designated color.
Reveal MultiColor works differently. You can choose up to two additional colors besides black, and the color is determined by the printer’s heat setting.
The biggest advantage? You do not have to define color zones. You can print the color you want anywhere on the label simply by selecting the correct temperature setting.
The Challenge: Printer Compatibility
Once the product was developed and approved, our biggest challenge was getting direct thermal printer manufacturers on board.
Direct thermal printers typically use one global heat setting, meaning changing the burn temperature affects the entire printhead.
For Reveal MultiColor to work, printer manufacturers need to allow software to change the heat setting during the printing of a label.
This has been our biggest challenge with the technology. However, as of the fourth quarter of 2023, one printer manufacturer was on board, with several more in the wings.
As the market sees the value of this technology, we believe more printer manufacturers will allow heat settings to be controlled during printing.
Reveal MultiColor Materials
Reveal MultiColor facestock produces crisp, bold color images anywhere on the label, along with non-yellowing and non-fading properties.
It is available in three materials:
- Paper – For shipping, receiving, and picking.
- Tag stock – A non-adhesive option.
- Polypropylene – For applications requiring moisture resistance.
