New Source Technologies STP1115 Bar Code Label Printer

I received the new Source Technologies STP1115 thermal transfer bar code label printer last week.  I was asked to evaluate the printer.  It has much of the same characteristics as the STP1120N except this is a flat head printer, just like a Zebra or Datamax.  The auto-loading of labels was great and easy to use.  I will have more information in the coming weeks once I put the printer through it’s paces.  What I can say is that the printing is clean and crisp.  I was very excited about quality of the ladder style bar codes.  It was as good as a picket fence style bar code.  I have several customers who could benefit from this alone.  If you are looking for a new printer, you must take a minute to look at the Source Technologies STP11115 bar code label printer.  More to come ……

Valkaria Gardens, LLC Goes Digital!

I had a meeting with Tim Laudermilk of Valkaria Gardens in Grant Valkaria, Florida last year.  After walking through his nursery, I noticed that everything was identified by hand written paper nursery tags.  He explained to me that one of the problems he was having was tagging and marking his nursery inventory,  it was time consuming and very illegible.  I suggested he use a thermal transfer label and tag printer with specially designed synthetic, weather resistant, nursery tags for his industry.  After sending in samples, he decided to order the system.  The system is now up and running and plants are identified by clear printed tags.  The two biggest benefits of this printing system is that the tags are printed very fast, about one a second and the pricing questions have been reduced to next to zero.  This is because the tags are now legible.  I have included a couple of before and after pictures of his tags.  For more information about Valkaria Gardens, please stop by for a visit, or email them at valkariagardens@aol.com, or call them at 321.302.0118 and tell them Dana sent you.

Integrated Label Form Growing Trend

Integrated label forms are growing more and more in popularity over the past year.  I had talked about it before, but with several new applications in the recent months and some new  information available from one of my vendors website, I decided to talk about it again.

Integrated Label Form Combination

Integrated Labels – Growing Trend

Integrated labels feature unique peel-out labels, which are die-cut and easy to remove from a paper laser sheet.  These products are specifically designed for laser printing.

Companies are gravitating to integrated labels because they streamline multi-function operations like shipping and invoicing by combining invoices and packing lists with shipping and/or return labels.  Providing a ‘one-step’ solution to a multiple step operation saves time and money.

Integrated labels are used by a variety of companies including manufacturing, warehouses, distribution/mailing houses, hospitals, doctors offices and laboratories to name a few.

Applications include the following:

  • Picking/packing lists
  • Return merchandise labels
  • Product registration information
  • Warehouse/inventory tracking
  • Return address labels
  • UPC price labels
  • Specimen labeling and tracking

We offer 8 stock sizes.  Each stock product utilizes an 8 1/2 x 11″ 24# laser bond sheet.  Stock sizes are sold by the case (1,500 sheets/case).  If one of our stock products doesn’t fit your requirements, we have extensive custom capabilities to design and manufacture to your exact needs”.

I designed an integrated label on a form for one of my customers.  They are using a paper business form with a pressure sensitive label attached to it.  With one pass through the printer, the information regarding the pick ticket and address label was complete in one pass.  Before this the customer had to print the pick ticket and the label separately and then made sure both items were put on the correct order.  Now, this is done on one form, one pass, with no mistakes.  The same customer came to me and needed a solution for their shipping labels.  I designed an integrated label within there shipping label.  This is the exact same scenario as the integrated label form, but it uses a pressure sensitive label instead of the form.  This creates peel-out label within a label.  This customer had to print a shipping label and their customer wanted some information they could take off of the shipping label and stick to the packing slips to verify shipment.  There are many applications where this can be used to save your company time and money.  For more information and stock sizes, please click here.

Label Placard For Warehouse Or Reusable Container Labeling

Which One Looks Like Your Company?

I came across a product for one of my customers, and it is a label placard.  What does it do, you ask?  It is label material that sticks to shelving or reusable containers and then you can stick your printed labels to it.  The beauty of this product is that your printed labels can be removed cleanly.  Reusable containers, if your company uses containers over and over, you know the cost of having to remove labels.  This product not only saves time, but makes for a better looking product when the labels are cleanly removed.  Warehousing, if you are like most companies who change location names often, this makes it easier when things change.  You do not have to use a flat razor to remove old labels, they just peel off with a little effort.  If you would like to see samples of this product, please email me at dritchie@paladinid.com .   To compliment the label placard, we carry a large assortment of durable warehouse labels, either pre-printed or blank.  The video below will demonstrate what this product is all about and how to successfully use it.

Markem LP 8400 Story II

I apologize for not keeping this blog up to date.  I thought I would have more time seeing that we are in a recession.  I just wanted to give an update as to where we are at with the testing on the new inks.  The testing is completed and our new inks tested better for fade resistance than the labels that were produced off of the Markem LP 8400.  As a company we were estatic that after two years we finally recieved the results we were trying to achieve.  The Markem LP 8400 was the only solution known to produce a colored label that could be outside for many many years.  There were no flexographics inks available to compete with this old technology.  We hired a chemist and put together a research team to find a solution for an outdoor colored label application.  After two years of testing and trying different things, we finally hit it.  We now offer a special outdoor flexographic ink that can withstand the rigors of the sun.  The customer was thrilled because their Markem printer was on its last legs and the company, Markem, was not supporting this equipment anymore.  I will talk more on this subject as time allows.  I believe I have a product that is unique in the industry that will have many applications, stay tuned.

Thermal Transfer Outdoor Colored Labels

I my 22 years of being in the bar code labeling industry, one thing that has frustrated me is that there were no solutions for outdoor colored labels that could run through a thermal transfer printer, be it a Zebra, Datamax, Sato or Intermec etc.  In order to make labels, a flexographic press is used.  The inks that are used do not have fade resistant properties that last more than 2-3 years outdoors.  I know this niche is very small in who could benefit from a colored label that would last 10-15 years outdoors, but I wanted to see if it could be done.  The key to all of this was to have a colored label that could run through a thermal transfer printer and last for many years.  In my quest to source this product, I was told it does not exist from 8 of my sources.  I was determined to get this product developed and then find a market.  As more and more companies are competing for market share, they have to come up with new and innovative ways to showcase their products.  Statistics show that color greatly improves marketability.  A chemist was hired and after two long years of development and testing, we finally have an approved product.  We can now offer most colors of inks on a label and is capable of running through a thermal transfer printer and stand up against the sun and elements.  Where we see an untapped market is outdoor drum labeling, welding cylinders and electrical appliances such as transformers, smart meters.  We will be issuing a press release for this new product in the coming months.  Any questions, please call me at 603.527.0256 or email me at dritchie@PaladinID.com .

Retro Reflective Labels At 1/3 The Price

I had a customer call last week and they needed 500 7.5″ x 12 retro reflective labels.  There were labeling their warehouse.  They had a Zebra printer and wanted to print these labels in-house.  I told them about our new label printing service and told them I would quote it both ways.  Believe it or not, I could pre-print their labels for about 1/3 the cost of them printing them themselves.  In certain applications, our service bureau is faster, better quality and a lot less money.  I had labels to them in a matter of days.  They were very happy with the service.  It was nice to have the right service and product for this specialty application.  The customer was thrilled with the results.

New Product For Thermal Transfer Printers, Ribbon Leader Guide!

After being in the industry for over 20 years, I have a new product that I am giving away.  I call it the “Ribbon Leader Guide”.  How many times have you had trouble threading your printer with ribbon, especially if you change ribbon before the ribbon is completely out or for some reason the ribbon breaks in the middle of a print run?  It is always a challenge to get the ribbon threaded through the printer.  I have come up with a rigid label tag stock with a slit that you can attach the ribbon to and feed it into the printer.  Once it comes out past the print head, remove the leader, load the ribbons on the take-up spindle and print.  This leader can be used over and over again and will work for any brand of printer, Zebra, Datamax, Sato, Intermec etc.  For a limited time, you can get your free Ribbon Leader Guide by emailing dritchie@PaladinID.com or calling 603.527.0256.  You will just loved it and say, “hey, why didn’t I think of it”.
