PaladinID is going to be the special guest of Kevin Skarritt of Acorn Creative at the Massnetcomms.org March meeting. Kevin is on the panel discussion along with David Meerman Scott, who is the featured speaker. The meeting is on “Social Media Marketing”. I am excited to be attending. I have a customer who is on a very good growth curve for the foreseeable future. The problem they are faced with is that the inventory and order picking is all done by manually on clip boards. After these tasks are done, the hard copy paperwork is then sent to the office to be typed into the computer. Another problem they had is that there was a significant delay between the time they collected the data to when they could invoice their customers, it took days. They wanted something faster. With the company growing so fast, they were concerned that they would have to add people to keep up with the increase in business. They asked PaladinID to come in and see what solutions we had to offer. Once we took a look at what they were doing, we could see that using the latest in mobile handheld computers, they would not only save time in their current processes, but virtually eliminate all errors from not having to key in the data but best of all it would be real time. The customer was thrilled and could not wait to get started once we gave them the proposal. They have been using this new system for well over a year now. The system exceeded their expectations and they believe they could grow over 200% and not add any people in the warehouse. They can now invoice the same hour once the picking is done and all key punch errors are gone. They have given us a great recommendation for our knowledge and follow through.
As all companies are trying to reduce costs, I see more and more of them turning to integrated label forms. This is where a form that they currently use contains a label integrated right into the original form. This one form can now serve two purposes, This not only rolls several functions into one, but it also reduces labor. For instance, if your form is a packing slip, once you incorporate a label, you now have a shipping label that can be used on the item you are shipping. Once companies understand all of the capabilities that one form can do, they are excited to get it implemented. We offer the ability for all different sizes of labels and colors to design your forms in order to make your work flow more streamlined. Give us your application and we will help you design an integrated form for a more efficient workplace.
I was recommended a book to read over the Christmas Holiday call “The Power Of Who” by Bob Beaudine. I was one of the first people to receive the book and have read it three times now. I think this is the best book I have ever read on networking. Very powerful ideas anyone can use and should use everyday. I would highly recommend it to anyone, not just in business, but in life. I have ordered 12 books to give to my closest friends and customers. I just handed out my last one, now I have to order another 12. I wanted to thank Bob personally for taking the time to write this book. I called his office and talked with Katy. She was gracious to give Bob my message because he was on a conference call. She said he would call at some point. Well a few days later, meaning today, my cell phone rang and it was Bob on the other end. I was so thrilled and shocked, I almost drove off of the road. Thank you Bob for taking time out of your busy day to give me a call. It was great talking to you, I really appreciate it. Keep up the great work. Thank you.
Just a little bit of fun news for the day. My parents were traveling from NC to Syracuse, NY this week and who sat right beside them during the trip was Chesley “Sully” Sullenburger. For those of you who missed the news, this is the US Airways Pilot that had to make an emergency landing in the Hudson River several weeks ago. They said he was very friendly, talkative and humble. He talked with them the whole trip. He explained how he handled the situation and his feelings during that short flight. It really make their trip exciting. Thank you Sully for taking the time and being so hospitable. I wish you the best of luck in all of your new opportunities that are ahead of you.
I am hearing a great deal lately on how the economy is slowing. People are repeating what they are hearing on the news. I believe this will be self fulfilling prophecy. If you think your business is soft, it probably will be. There are two things we are doing at PaladinID to help companies in these times. One, use our buying power to keep our product prices as low as possible. Two, keep our overhead low. We are proud to say, have accomplished both of these things. If you are not happy with you current vendor or if your prices on labels and ribbons are increasing, we would love to talk to you.
I just hear word of a new product that is being released from ID Technology, one of my vendor partners. This is a new flexible packaging printer that will print on Tyvek, PD, PP and paper. It has a ribbon saver option built-in that can reduce your ribbon costs by up to 20%. Not only are we excited about this product because we carry a wide range of thermal transfer ribbons for these machines, we are excited because it competes directly with VideoJet and Markem flexible packaging printers at a more competitive price. For more information, you can visit the Press Room.
I have a new product that I would like to let you know about. It is called “Clean Start”. In a recent study, over 90% of the people who use a thermal transfer printer, Zebra, Datamax, Sato or Intermec do not regularly clean the print head. This causes premature print head wear and poor print quality. I now have a ribbon that solves this problem called the “Clean Start” ribbon. It is available on all ribbon formulations, wax, wax/resin and full resin ribbons. There is a cleaning card built right into the ribbon leader. When you load a fresh ribbon into your printer, it automatically cleans the print head. For a free report and demo along with additional information, please visit “Clean Start” to find out more. These ribbons are made for all of the major printer brands, Zebra, Datamax, Sato and Intermec.
I don’t know about you but I am getting sick and tired of the prices of label going up everytime I turn around. My suppliers have given me three increases in the past 14 months. I have been lucky to manage my stock with quantity purchases so I would not have to raise my prices to my customers. I have locked my paper pricing in for 2009. We are also working with our customer base and showing them ways to improve their purchasing ways. I am hoping that we see a slow down in the increases soon, it is not good for anyone. We are doing everything we can to maintain our competitive edge. If you have any good ideas you would like to share on this subject, please do so. Thanks for listening to me vent.
I have a customer with a Markem LP 8400 that is printing colored labels for an outdoor application. The problem they are having is this machine is 10 years old and it is obsolete. Markem is not supporting this equipment anymore. Not only are they having trouble getting parts, they are having trouble getting supplies, labels and ribbons. Over the past 14 months, I have been working on finding a solution with flexographic inks that would withstand the rigorous testing procedures and last out doors many years. The problem with flexographic inks is that they fade outside in a very short period of time. We could not make it past the 250 hour in the Weather-o-meter testing. I am here to report we have made significant progress. I will be writing more about this application over next several weeks. More to come.
